Through intentional storytelling, we spotlight small interventions and the positive ripple effects they create — for communities, biodiversity, and circular systems.

Impact Film Series – Playa Cares

Overview

In the first phase of a three-year storytelling program, we created a series of short films for Playa Cares, the ESG program of Playa Hotels & Resorts and Hyatt Resorts. The films showcase small but impactful regeneration and sustainability efforts in resort areas and nearby communities.

Approach

The project emphasized the why behind each project and the larger issues in the community. Each film was made in partnership with local groups, employees, and community members and the heart of each story is shaped by our conversations. This collaboration authentically spotlights local initiatives that boost community wellbeing, biodiversity, circularity, and cultural heritage.

The short format makes these stories easy to share through various channels such as employee meetings, onboarding sessions, corporate communications, on-property for guests, ESG channels and publications as well as through community partners. The intentional audience for these stories were employees, leadership, partners but reached a wider audience.

Purpose

These stories are created with an impact roadmap:

Awareness > Personal relatability and empathy > Behaviour change > Action > Stewardship

By making sustainability relatable, the films help viewers see how small actions can lead to significant change.

Alignment and Impact

Each story connects with the Playa Cares ESG pillars and aligns with relevant United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This is documented in our straightforward impact map which accompanies every film, helping viewers link initiatives to broader environmental and social results. This document presents the issues, potential solutions and a roadmap to progress. Key stakeholders and potential impact for them are highlighted.

Outcome

The series offers a scalable storytelling model that brings sustainability to life through real people and places. By highlighting local initiatives and their ripple effects, the program enhances engagement within the Playa ecosystem. It also fosters a culture of shared responsibility and long-term stewardship.
